Transitioning to Paddle Billing and Version Licensing

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a seamless experience for our users, we recently overhauled our backend infrastructure. Alongside our recent macOS framework upgrades, we have completely migrated our payment processing ecosystem from Paddle Classic to the modern Paddle Billing platform. With this change, we are also shifting our monetization model: we have dropped subscriptions in favor of traditional version licensing.

Here is why we made these changes and how they directly benefit you.

Paddle Billing: Better Security and Global Compliance

Paddle Classic served us well for years, but the global digital landscape has shifted. Apple platforms require absolute security, and payment systems must adapt to stricter global tax laws, compliance standards, and consumer protection regulations.

By upgrading to the modern Paddle Billing API, we unlock several crucial improvements:

• Enhanced Payment Security: Paddle Billing utilizes modern security frameworks, providing robust protection for your financial data and supporting newer, localized payment options.
• Frictionless Checkout: The new API features a highly optimized, responsive checkout flow that reduces load times and operates seamlessly inside and outside the app.
• Reliable Global Compliance: Paddle automatically handles global sales tax (VAT, GST, etc.) and regional regulatory changes, allowing us to spend less time managing invoices and more time writing code.

Dropping Subscriptions for Version Licensing

Putting You in Control

While the software industry has aggressively moved toward recurring subscription models, we listened closely to our community. Many WindowMizer users expressed a strong preference for ownership over continuous billing.

In response, we have retired our subscription model and transitioned to **Version Licensing**:

• No Recurring Fees: You pay once for a specific major version of WindowMizer. There are no surprise monthly or annual charges, and no active subscriptions to manage or cancel.
• Keep What You Buy: When you purchase a license for a specific version, it is yours to use indefinitely on compatible macOS versions.
• Optional Upgrades: When we release the next major version of WindowMizer with new features, you can choose whether or not you want to purchase a discounted upgrade. If you choose not to upgrade, your current version will keep working exactly as it always has.
